Russian dump, Aug 18

At the border we are worried about leaving Kazakhstan because we havent registered - even Archie, one of the guys in the ambulance, has lost his customs doccument. Fortunatley, it seems to be a holiday of sorts for the customs office and they are more interested in their pingpong table than dealing with the paperworks that our mess would have certainly caused them. All eleven of us, including Archie, get through with little more than a disappointed head shake. A few more hours of paperwork on the Russian side and we are through! The Russian roads are in much better shape and we make great time getting into Barnaul where we stock up on food and hit the internet cafĂ©. After much deliberation about spending the night in Barnaul we decide to head out, driving into the night and getting a few hundred km south towards Mongolia before setting up camp on a dump… In case we havent pointed it out before, Kazakhs and Russians seem to dispose of their garbage y burning it. We were all plenty tired to sleep through the smell.
