Shingqoja, Aug 16

About now we realized that, due to our misunderstanding of the rules, we were late on registering ourselves in Kazakhstan. We figure the best thing to do is to try and register anyways so we drive to the next major city, Taldiqorghan, to find someone who can register us. After a couple of hours of failed attempts we decide we should just head on to the border because we are going to get fined/delayed regardless. The roads are fairly decent so we are able to get in better than 500km in what is left of the day and camp in a really nice field in the hills a few km south of Ayakoz, near a small village called Shingqoja. Great spot, but it did get cold that night; Jerry spent most of the next day warming up. We set off in the morning with hopes of crossing the border today.
